Summer 2009
Here are some ways to implement missions into your
Christian child-care curriculum:
Use Start Teaching Guide andFirst Steps in Missions, vol. 14, to provide learning experiences about missionaries and the work they do.
Each week lead preschoolers to participate in a helping others activity. Suggest that preschoolers list persons they know who are in need. Then write these on a chart. Each week, choose a person(s) you will help. Preschoolers like making cards, recording songs or videos, baking cookies, or making fruit baskets. Some preschoolers will enjoy cleaning the grounds of the child-care center.
Teach preschoolers Bible thoughts, such as Help one another (see Gal. 5:13); Pray for one another (see James 5:16); and Be kind to each other (see Eph. 4:32).
Every day include a discussion in ways to Love God, Love Others.
Lead preschoolers to start a booklet entitled I Can be More Like Jesus. Each day add a page to the booklet. Send home at the end of the week (or month).
Share your ideas for missions education in your center and ask questions at the Christian Childcare Network forum in Preschool Leaders at www.wmuforums.com.
